London & Area Neighbourhoods
Medway district, in the northwest area of London, is home to the University of Western Ontario (UWO), University Hospital, Brescia University College and Huron University College. It is bordered by the Thames River and Medway Creek to the north and east, Fanshawe Park Rd. to the north, Aldersbrook Rd. to the west and the CN railroad tracks to the south. Gainsborough and Sarnia Roads are the main east-west corridors through the district with Wonderland Rd N. cuts straight through the middle heading north-south.
The University of Western Ontario is located on 155 hectares of land along the Thames River and is home to approximately 3,500 full-time faculty and staff and 30,000 students. A large number of student residences can be found along Western Rd. within the Medway district.
Smaller neighbourhoods of Attawandaran, White Hills and Lawson Estates in the north and Medway Heights, Chesham Estates, Sherwood Park, Orchard Park, and University Heights make up the rest of the district. Besides UWO, the district’s main hub is the Sherwood Forest Mall which is also the location of the Sherwood Library Branch. Medway Arena and Community Centre, Medway District Park, Skateboard park and the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, with an Olympic size pool and diving facility, are all located near the intersection of Wonderland Rd. and Gainsborough Rd. Banting Secondary School, Emily Carr Public School, Orchard Park Public School, Sherwood Forest Public School, University Heights Public School, Wilfrid Jury Public School and St. Thomas More Separate School are all found in Medway. Part of the Medway Valley Heritage Forest Environmentally Significant Area and trail system is located in this district.
